  Honest survey question on effectiveness of 'apostacy'

  it seems like lots of people have big dreams of 'destroying the watchtower'.

  it's usually linked to a story of how they were wronged and want some revenge.

  do these 'in your face' attempts to convince people that the truth isn't the truth really have an effect?.

  Shouting matches don't work. Living a life of quiet example might, but Witnesses are trained to be blind to the world - especially the goodness in it. How many times did we hear stories how crime and violence are increasing in 'this wicked world' (hint: both are decreasing)? On the other hand, how many times were stories of non-JWs human compassion held up as a positive example? Rarely if ever. The Organization depends on a black vs. white, us vs. them, evil vs. good polarization and has no compunctions whatsoever about misrepresenting the outside world. To say nothing of refusing to participate in Jesus Christ's mandate to aid those in need regardless of their faith...

  first of all let me start by saying who am i to judge, but... i understand jwn has completely evolved over the years, but what i would like to see a forum that has current members and former jw's that still live by bible principles and respect the bible, but are not afraid to call out the watchtower on their practices and revised history.

  i think quality posters as mentioned above, after venting their frustrations and experiences realize this website is taken over by athiests.

  nw? - Just to clarify...you're not pissing me off nor would I consider you an enemy. It'd take a lot more than you could do on a bulletin board to do either of those things.

  Also, I don't believe in the lines you draw. I know plenty of atheists whom I would call Christian. I know plenty of self-professed Christians (JWs or otherwise) whose faith and works isn't worth a bucket of spit.

  From a freudian perspective, his comments do not so much drip with irony as reveal a secretive heart well-accustomed to the dual life of an anxious sceptic who is not free to express his views among "brothers and sisters".

  From my perspective, I think he just enjoys getting a reaction and inflicting pain. Did Freud have anything to say about sadists?

  Simon is the river and we are the field. All sorts of flowers and trees have sprung up since he started the site.

  While he could cut off the water supply if it suits him, most of the field here is a communal creation. We'll see our share of weeds here too, nourished by the same water.

  The best advice I could give you is to harvest what you will from this board or simply enjoy the scenery. If you don't like the look of the land, there's plenty of other places to explore.

  Journalistic report from the inside

  i am presently fading out, and yesterday, the thought occurred to me as to make some sort of journalistic report from the inside.

  what i mean is that when you stop and really listen to the type of things the jehovahs witnesses say to one another, i am convince that the population at large would be appalled by what these friendly people actually think when they go door to door.. and while fading out, that would be the perfect time to wear a wire, lets say for a year or so, and then, make a documentary about it.

  of course, for this to work, one would have to be very specific and say names.

  Unless there was a very ripe scandal to be had (e.g. the protection of pedophiles) I suspect no news team would invest the time to assist you. To them, you would be borrowing their equipment, expertise and time for your own vendetta. If they can't market that vendetta, you'd have no shot at them taking the case.

  Documentary producers generally know where the local lines are between legal behavior and illegal behavior. Crosses into actionable behavior happen, but they're well-calculated risks backed by the legal and financial resources of billion-dollar networks and syndicates. If you go on your own and cross the line, I guarantee you will be destroyed in the courts. You really need to weigh this before doing something rash.

  My, my, my........counterfeit Christians complaining about atheists, and vice versa. That's the beauty of The Truth in that we don't have a lack of unity. 8 million strong and in unison serving the true God all the while speaking the pure language. No backbiting, arguing, debating, speculating, criticizing, etc. Nope, just love, and worship done with spirit and truth.

  Almost all of us remember the political intrigue, rumormongering and even suicides in the Kingdom Halls firsthand. I remember all three. This particular suicide especially haunts me: It was in 1984. A brother from our congregation was starting to fade and his believing wife threatened to leave him and take their young children with her. The elders made it clear that they backed her, and rather than fight, he walked into an oncoming train. The congregation broke up soon afterward.

  Your paragraph might fly in a door-to-door recruiting speech or a Bible study, but we know better. We've lived the life and we've seen the backbiting and crticizing for ourselves. My God, you even speak of a pure language...a pure language wouldn't have to be CHANGED every few years, would it?

  Neither am I a "punk kid" (I am in my forties) nor am I an atheist. Plenty of others here continue to adhere to Christianity despite their disillusionment or outrage with the WTBTS. I would go so far as to say that one NEEDS to divorce the JW Organization in order to become a Christian. Witnesses follow the Governing Body and the Watchtower: they most certainly do not do things as Christ commanded.

  I'm not sure what you feel is to be gained by starting off with an invalid generalization of the current posters here. Invalid generalizations, after all, are some of the main things we ALL came here to escape.

  You may want to check (discreetly) with your local authorities, or better yet a lawyer, regarding your plans. Recording others without their permission, especially over the telephone or in a private meeting, carries some amount of legal risk which will vary with local laws. Publishing the same would expose you to even more legal action, and the Witnesses - for all their failings - have a fairly adroit legal department.

  I see no one on this thread has taken Matthew 6 to heart. Typical.

  Not at all. Matthew 6 rocks. In fact, I like this passage earlier in the chapter whenever some JW tries to justify shunning:

  14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.
